Sistrunk, named after James Sistrunk, a prominent Black doctor in Fort Lauderdale, is a neighborhood that's rich in history and culture. Located in the heart of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Sistrunk is often celebrated as the core of the African American community in the city. The neighborhood is anchored by the historic Sistrunk Boulevard, which is lined with local businesses, cultural institutions, and is the host of the annual Sistrunk Parade and Festival celebrating Black culture and community.

Vibrant Murals

As you walk the streets of Sistrunk, you are greeted by colorful murals and public art installations that tell a story of resilience, community, and cultural pride. Despite the challenges of the past, including periods of neglect and disinvestment, Sistrunk has always maintained its vibrant spirit. Today, it is experiencing a renaissance with increased investment in infrastructure, housing, and public spaces.

Exquiste Cuisine

The community is diverse, and the residents are known for their warmth and friendliness. Small businesses, including cafes, restaurants, and shops, offer a glimpse into the eclectic and resilient spirit of the locals. Southern comfort food, Caribbean flavors, and Black heritage are all part of the unique culinary landscape here.

Galleries all over the world are now making widespread structural changes and institutional pledges, owing to the “asymmetries of power” that have governed over the years.
